Ondé é… How to make a map of Madeira?

Since the very beginning of the human history people used to draw the routes of their travels and mark directions. Discovering new lands and territories always brought countless opportunities as well made the travellers in need to improve the orientation systems. It lead to new map inventions while putting the knowledge of where’s what in the centre of interest of military, business and finally tourism.

Imagine that you’re a newcomer to Madeira. Even if you speak Portuguese the very strange accent of the locals may be more than confusing and those who speak English may not be able to provide you best answer regarding that most of the people here used to travel around by car. Moreover, living for a long time in a long place may make anyone unaware of their past travel problems. Therefore volunteers of Theatro Metaphora tried to visualise the most important destinations around. Willing to create an open source map which could allow anyone willing to discover the island Ignacy Januszek with Marcin Moczulski have prepared a beta version of the online map.

Developing the online mapping skills

This weekend with initiative of Mela Bettega (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa) the TM’s volunteers combined their efforts to pin the chosen locations creating the map of the Madeira Map for Hungry Traveller. Blanka Wawrzyniak, Dorota Stanek, Ignacy Januszek, Jacek Szakuro and Raquel Husillos together found out some best places which are must go when you are on Madeira.

Brainstorming for new ideas
Hungry travellers are everywhere
Real Italian Focaccia with the tincture of Madeira
Clear map key is essential

The project is still under development but undoubtedly it will help lost visitors to find their place on the island of spring.
