Discovering new hobbies in Madeira

Hello there! Living in Madeira is making me try new things and discovering new passions so in this post I’m going to talk about a new hobbie that I have recently discovered: doing mandalas! I have never done mandalas from zero, sometimes I just painted some from coloring books. But one day a member of the staff did a workshop about mandalas and now I just can’t stop doing them! It’s a very entertaining and relaxing activity after a day of work or when you have free time and you don’t know what to do. So I’m going to explain a little bit how to do them by yourself although I’m not as good as out teacher because it’s a matter of practising.

Here it is the list of materials:

  • Compas
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Eraser
  • Marker
  • Aquarelle colors
  • Paper for aquarelle

And that’s it!

First, you need to look for the middle of the paper to start doing the mandala so you can do it with a ruler because it’s easier. Then it’s time to start. There are to ways: first you can draw all the circles of the mandala with the compas to fill them later or you can draw a circle and fill it with drawings and so on. Then, you should erase the lines that you don’t want to highlight with marker from now on. When you have the drawings finished it’s time to color it. You can be as creative as you want, all the mandalas are beautiful and unique. After you finish coloring just add a little bit of wáter with a tiny brush to cover all the parts of the mandala and let it dry for some hours. To finish, retouch the pencil lines with a black marker and you have completed your mandala!

After this workshop all the people from Metaphora is crazy about mandalas so I hope you like it as well.

Here you have pictures of some mandalas that I created:
