As I have said in other posts, Madeira is an astonishing island full of nature and sometimes the best views are seen from above. The advantage of living in Madeira is that you can always find a beautiful high place to catch a good view of the lanscape. So in this post I would like to recomend the best viewpoints that I have visited so far.
- Miradouro Ponta do Rosto
This viewpoint is located in the north of Ponta de São Lourenço. It’s really good to stop there after a long hike and admire the ocean. From here, you can also have a good look of the north and south coasts of Madeira. Moreover, you don’t need to be a master in photography to take good pictures here because the landscape helps a lot.
2. Miradouro do Pico da Torre
It is located in Câmara de Lobos and you can have a panoramic view of its bay and part of Funchal. To me, it is worthy to go during the sunset because you can see how the sky becomes orange, yellow and pink.
3. Miradouro Cristo Rei
It is located in Garajau and it offers views of the bay of Funchal as well as the nature reserve of Garajau. It is called like this due to a big statue of Jesuschrist that is placed there. What I like the most about this viewpoint is that there is a cafeteria so you can appreciate Madeira while you are testing a good coffee.
4. Cabo Girão
Situated in Câmara de Lobos, Cabo Girão is the highest viewpoint in Europe with 580 meters of altitude. To me, it is the most impressive one bacuse the floor is madeout of glass. From here you can see Câmara de Lobos and Funchal.
5. Caminho do Ilhéu
This one is not a real viewpoint but I would like to include it here because I have spent many afternoons there watching the sunset so it is worthy to visit it. It is located next to Teatro Metaphora and you can see part of the city, the ocean and the mountains. It is not very high but it is a good place to take beautiful pictures.
So here you have my favourite places to enjoy good views of Madeira. I hope you liked the post 😉
