On July 31, 2020 at the MIM-Museu de Imprensa da Madeira, the event ending the Bank of Ideas 2020 competition took place. This competition was an initiative of the City Council of Câmara de Lobos, which invited the Teatro Metaphora association to cooperate. The purpose of the Association was to promote youth participation in the life of the County. Eight applications were submitted, three of which were awarded with EUR 5,000 from the municipal budget.
Bank of Ideas 2020, promoted by the City Council and Associação de Amigos das Artes – Teatro Methaphora was created for the active participation of young people in the civic life of the commune.
The challenge was accepted by 10 young people who submitted 8 proposals, which were assessed by the jury in terms of their feasibility and applicability in the face of the constraints caused by the ongoing pandemic. The jury selected three winning projects. The commune will allocate as much as EUR 5,000 for their implementation. The ceremony was attended by the secretary of regional education Jorge Carvalho, the municipality board and the Direção Regional de Juventude João Rodrigues.
Of course, the entire event was carried out in accordance with the requirements of preventing the spread of Covid-19: the number of people was kept to a minimum, we all kept our social distance and we disinfected our hands before entering the event. We must all have face masks all the time.
The following projects were awarded:
“Valorização do Património Natural do Concelho“
For an innovative component, feasibility, enhancement of cultural heritage, promotion of good practices and healthy behaviors, participation and integration of young people in your commune and cultivating civic bonds and attitudes.
“Workshops de foto“
Sensitizing the population to environmental problems through photography, non-formal education, feasibility, quality, creativity and promotion of the commune.
“Expansão do projeto- Arte nas Portas“
For an innovative and creative component as it continues the project in more rural areas and includes all parishes in the commune; it is an inclusive proposal, with the participation and involvement of young people in the parishes of the commune, who are expected to collect recycled materials and to prepare the panels themselves. The environmental component and feasibility, sustainability, creativity and quality also deserve attention.
For the end, a short comment from Pedro Coelho:
“The proposals received are a good sign. A sign that despite the limitations, the young people of Câmara de Lobos have not stopped actively thinking more than about the future, about the present of their commune. Câmara-Lobense management has always been guided by the implementation of the participatory methodology. Together with Bank of Ideas 2020, we try to encourage young people to participate in the active life of the commune, to civic participation, with specific ideas that go beyond traditional, but also important political participation.”
