Let’s go on a cultural trip

This week I spend assisting in organisation of a Medical course that was held in Santana and as we know – all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Because of this reason the main organizer decided to break our routine and take us all – participants of the course and organizers – for a afternoon of fun in the Parque temático da Madeira.

The park offers a variety of attractions for all ages, ranging from playgrounds for the kids, historical and culture exhibitions, an animated experience of Madeira and of course the Madeiran tradition – the handcraft, the food and architecture. We even got to sample some traditional bread made with corn flower and sweet potatoes and baked in a wood fire oven. Yum!

My favourite exhibition was Discoberta das Ilhas (discovery of the islands) in which we begin with learning about the creation of the universe, the Earth and its life forms. We continue by learning about the formation of the Madeiran achipelago and its islands, its discovery and subsequent population, the evolution of its culture and traditions, the architecture, all the way to the present day.
