Apart from my EVS project objective, which is raising awareness of recycling, reusing and best ecological practices, it also aims to develop social and personal skills of children, youth and adults based on the principles of non-formal education.
Once in a while, I as a volunteer help my hosting Organization with their local activities. One of them was held this Saturday at MIUT – Madeira Island Ultra Trail, which is an annual event and promotes a healthy lifestyle. From year to year more and more people express their interest to be part of this huge event. Participants had to pass 115 km-long track and the finish line was in Machico, where our activity took place.
Our role at this event was to entertain children. We made balloon animals, did face-painting and played different kind of games with them. On the other hand, we helped our partner organization to sell maps of the city.
The day turned out to be really productive, it was full of fun and positive energy. Working with children sometimes gets really tiring, but it was worth of it. Another activity of face-painting with children is coming soon, so let’s see how it goes…
