It took me a while to realise where the sharp flash of light came from. It happens too regularly to be a sunbeam hitting someone’s wristwatch and then hitting my eyes. It also couldn’t be a lightning with blue skies overhead. Then I realised it came from a rotating mirror on one of the very common banana fields. Mystery solved. What’s it doing there though?
The banana fields surprised me when I arrived in Madeira. They are charmingly located between the houses inside the city. The many banana farmers seem to take good care of their bananas. For example, they dress them in blue plastic overalls. It looks like an act of love although I don’t know for sure what it means.
